In high-pressure team environments, we often prize "unemotional" logic as the gold standard for professionalism. Yet, this mask of stoicism comes with a heavy price tag: a significant loss of innovation and collective effectiveness. When a team lacks the psychological tools to navigate emotions, or when a leader fails to create a "safe container" for the expression of negative feelings, the result is a hopeless muddle of undifferentiated stress.
This talk presents a real-world case study of a Norwegian leadership team navigating the "clouds" of external pressure. We will explore a Model of Emotional Awareness, moving from individual emotion differentiation to a collective Emotional Carrying Capacity (ECC). I will explain why Susan Whelan’s IMGD model is a great tool to assess a team.
Attendees will learn why repressing disagreement or frustration doesn't make it disappear; it simply causes it to resurface as disengagement and multitasking in meetings.
I will provide a set of immediate, "low-threshold" interventions designed to stage presence and awareness, allowing your team to use all variations of emotions as high-value data for problem-solving rather than triggers for conflict.
