Using Wardley Mapping to increase situational awareness in decision-making
Ole Andreas Rydland
Wardley Mapping is a tool that gained traction in the last few years and has been receiving a lot of attention in the DDD-community. It is a (preferably) collaborative and visual diagramming technique that can help foster better conversations and situational awareness when making decisions in complex environments.
In this presentation we'll start with a short introduction to Wardley Mapping for those that haven't heard about it before. Then we'll move on to talk a little bit about relevant climatic patterns, before moving on to some real world examples to see how we can utilize Wardley Maps to increase our situational awareness. We'll see how to use maps to improve our decision making when it comes to architecture, build versus buy, organizational team structure and ownership and platforming. Then we'll end with some tips and tricks to get started with mapping on your own!
